我曾以 Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland 第三章〈The Caucus Race and a Long Tale〉作為工作的起點。

I began this work with the third chapter of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Caucus Race and a Long Tale. The chapter describes a race with no starting point, no finish line, no clear rules, and no criteria for winning or losing. The participants simply run in circles, until the Dodo declares that “everyone has won.” The race appears to be completed, yet no one has arrived anywhere.
In Dry–Wet Separation, I extract recurring state changes from the text, particularly the two conditions—dry and wet—that lie beneath the surface of the narrative. Tomatoes and red dates are chosen as the primary objects due to their similar forms. During the performance, I use the same set of everyday utensils to carry out an identical series of actions on each object.
Within this repetitive and neutral procedure, difference is produced precisely through surface-level uniformity. Under the same operations, the tomato quickly collapses, seeps, and deforms, while the red date continues to retain its dryness and structural stability. What the audience witnesses in this prolonged state is not the completion of an action, but how actions continue to leave consequences in the absence of a conclusion.
A race in which everyone participates in the procedure, yet no one truly arrives.
